Why ISTQB required?

Although like  for all certifications, you may get very question that would arise is it worth taking and certifying yourself about the knowledge you already know,  but this would does make the other person ( your manager, interviewer, etc.) think are very much capable. Though in India , where there are not many professionals who would have had the certification, but it certainly puts you conspicuous in a lot. Would surely help the other person that you would make difference.



One thing i would like mention specific to ISTQB certification  is that it would certainly help you UK and european countries to get better recognition

It is kind of evident from the benefits which ISTQB website mentions
Some advantages offered by the ISTQB Certified Tester scheme are:

• Testers don't need to know English in order to gain a recognized qualification with less cultural bias. It also allows them to move across country borders.
• Economic benefits accrue to testing-related suppliers such as training providers, consultants, etc. in all participating countries.
• European/multinational/international projects can have a common understanding of testing issues.

All thats said and done, nothing can beat Experience, but still best one to mark you expertise and presence in testing

How many levels of certifications offered?

There are two levels.
1. Foundation level - Any person with Zero yrs of experience can attempt this
2. Advanced level - As per the India ISTQB site  below are the prequiste

For Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) Holders in Computer Science or related fields

• Foundation Level Clearance
• 24 Months of Testing Experience in IT, Testing,

Development, QA, Engineering or related fields (For any 2 sub-levels)

• Min. 36 Months of experience mandatory for Adv. Complete Certification(For all 3 sub-levels)

For Non Bachelor ’s Degree (or higher) Holders in Computer Science or related fields

• Foundation Level Clearance
• 60 Months of Testing Experience in IT, Testing,

Development, QA, Engineering or related fields

As seen above, the foundation level is common for both.  The foundation levels of both certifications are transferrable as ISEB have adopted the syllabus from the ISTQB Foundation level.
